Kathy, never mind I figured out how to retrieve it. Thanks

Kathy,

I created a custom food for Jif peanut butter. I selected it and entered it then wanted too change it. I am unable to delete the selected item in a meal. I can delete the name, serving but the nutrient data remains on the line.

Hi Golfgame, if you are using the web program, click the food name (1st column), and then click "delete row" in the top middle menu bar. That should delete everything.

If you are using your app, you should be able to just use the swipe/delete function to quickly delete an unwanted food item from the meal. There is also an "edit list" function that people can use to delete multiple entries as well as to copy foods from one meal to another.

Let me know how it works out!

Best,
Kathy

Thanks, I didn't see that button.

If you have say 3-4 items listed in a meal is there a way to make a recipe out of only 2?

Hi Golfgame - no, the recipe will capture everything in that meal so start with a blank one!

If you use the recipe function and there are 2 extra meal items in there that are not a part of the recipe, you could just delete those from the ingredient list before saving the recipe. But then you have to remember to enter them back into the meal area if you did eat them as part of that meal.

Hi Kathy. I'm new to the app. I've lost weight over the course of 2 years and now I'm at a plateau. This app really looks great and it's been an eye opener for me the past couple of days. I think the challenge I face is coming up with meal ideas so I don't get bored with the same thing. Thank you so much for all of your help.

Hi Chanikaj, first, congrats on losing weight now for 2 years! Weight plateaus are not uncommon - the trick is finding where the calories error lies - underestimating calories intake and/or overeatimating calories burned. This older article might help you troubleshoot: http://www.mynetdiary.com/weight-plateau.html Common culprits are more dining out/travel along with less consistent exercise.

Meal ideas: many of us face that challenge too. We have a system of meals that has helped us but over time, but it can get boring. I challenge myself by finding new websites and experimenting with new recipes or novel recipe ingredients (e.g. try a new fish type). I also have gotten into the habit of asking folks at potluck parties for their recipe if I like the dish and it appears healthy and calories-controlled.

Yummly is particularly helpful since we can filter for calories, sodium, etc. And there are tons of recipe sources on Yummly: http://www.yummly.com/

Cooking Light has been incredibly helpful to make comfort foods more healthful so I still rely on that - their online recipe finder is fantastic. I also have my husband go and search for new recipes based upon main ingredient (e.g. pork, fish, etc.) to get a fresh perspective. http://www.cookinglight.com/food/recipe-finder

FROM: U3072591 Jul 26 If my calorie allowance is 1065 how many calories should I burn by the end of the day to lose weight? I walk 12000 steps almost every day, cycle 11 miles every other day and do 1 hour of aerobics 3 times a week.

MY REPLY: Hi U3072591, first, the target of 1065 kcal is not accounting for any exercise. So, read your Daily Analysis for the bottom line, which adds in exercise calories burned so that you create the needed calories deficit to meet your stated target weight by the target date (or to meet the #lbs/wk wt loss goal you set). If the calories goal seems too low, then lower your weekly rate of weight loss so that the calories goal rises. When folks account for exercise calories burned, most women can eat at least 1200 kcal and still lose weight. Most men will lose on at least 1500 kcal/day (with taller men, 1800 kcal/day).

Good short article to read on how settings affect your calories goals and how to tweak: http://www.mynetdiary.com/customizing-calorie-goals.html

From Lyndajones Aug 6 (copied from archived forum): Hi I have been doing this for a week now and written down everything to no avail have lost absolutlety nothing keeping within my calorie count please advise as to what I am not doing properly feel a bit despondent.

My reply: Hi Lyndajones - there could be a number of factors at play. First, weigh yourself in the morning before bathing or eating - that will have the least amount of variability. Our weight can go up and down through out the day.

To lose weight, you need to create enough of a calories deficit over time. There is ALWAYS error - whether it is with calories expended or calories consumed.

Calories for weight loss come from prediction equations (they are estimates).

Be sure to read the article on calories to make sure you understand how the settings affect the goals. You can find the article via Library in apps, or via the web program: http://www.mynetdiary.com/customizing-calorie-goals.html

Common issues:
1. Overall activity level set too high.
2. Using the wrong food item in your log.
3. Inaccurate portion size (guessing vs. measuring).
4. Logging too much exercise - don't log activities of daily living - even sedentary level accounts for stuff like cooking, reading, etc.

Let me know how it goes! Don't give up.
Best,
Kathy

I have been tracking since August 1. According to my profile u should have lost several pounds. I eat around 1100-1300 cal a day and burn an average of 350 cal per day on the elliptical. I am 55, 168 lbs, 5'4. Do I need fewer calories?
